Summary

Harry, who is twelve years old, is visited by a house-elf named Dobby while spending the summer with the Dursleys. He informs Harry that he is in danger and must leave Hogwarts immediately. Dobby spoils Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon's dinner party when Harry refuses. Harry is accused of unlawfully practicing magic by the Ministry of Magic. In response, Harry is locked in his room by a furious Uncle Vernon.

Ron Weasley and his brothers, Fred and George, come in their father's charmed Ford Anglia to retrieve Harry and transport him to their house. Harry and the other Weasleys—Molly, Percy, and Ginny—go to Diagon Alley for school supplies. They encounter Hermione Granger and Lucius Malfoy, the father of Harry's arch-enemy Draco, as well as Gilderoy Lockhart, a pretentious autobiographer adventurer and the new Defense against the Dark Arts professor.

Harry and Ron are unable to enter Platform 93/4 at King's Cross station, and so miss the Hogwarts Express. They fly Mr. Weasley's automobile to school, colliding with the Whomping Willow on school grounds and destroying Ron's hand-me-down wand. The automobile then makes its way into the woods.

Harry learns that some wizards despise Muggle-born wizards like Hermione, believing that pure-bloods are superior. The only person who hears a voice coming from within the castle walls is Harry. Mrs. Norris, Mr. Filch's cat, is discovered frozen on a wall, along with a bloody written warning: "The Door to the Chamber of Secrets has been unlocked. Be wary of the heir's foes "... Salazar Slytherin, one of the school's founders, is said to have founded the Chamber following a disagreement with other founders over the admission of Muggle-born pupils. The Chamber is said to be home to a creature that can only be controlled by the Heir of Slytherin.

A rogue Bludger attacks Harry during a Quidditch match, shattering his arm. When Lockhart tries to mend it, he makes a mistake, and Harry is admitted to the hospital for the night. Dobby pays Harry a visit and admits to charming the Bludger and sealing the doorway at King's Cross. He claims that the Chamber of Secrets has been unlocked previously. When another attack happens, the pupils are forced to attend a dueling session, where Harry reveals that he is a 'Parselmouth,' with a unique ability to communicate with snakes.

Given Draco's antipathy for Muggle-borns, Harry, Ron, and Hermione think Draco is the Heir after another attack. Harry and Ron can imitate Draco's lackeys Crabbe and Goyle with Hermione's secret concoction of Polyjuice Potion. Draco is discovered to be uninvolved. A journal left in her stall is shown to them by Moaning Myrtle, a ghost that haunts a girls' restroom. The diary belonged to Tom Riddle, a student who had seen the death of a fellow student in the previous installment. Within the journal, Riddle's mind declares to Harry that Hagrid is to blame. In the following attack, Hermione is terrified, and the school is put on lockdown. Albus Dumbledore, the Headmaster, and Hagrid, the Hagrid, were forced to leave Hogwarts.

Harry and Ron pursue spiders into the Forbidden Forest, following Hagrid's directions. They come into a massive Acromantula named Aragog, who denies any participation and maintains that spiders are afraid of the true monster. Aragog tries to feed Harry and Ron to its offspring, but they are saved by Mr. Weasley's automobile. Hermione has concluded that the monster is a basilisk, a huge serpent that kills with a gaze and petrifies when seen indirectly, as Harry and Ron find. The basilisk, Harry decides, is the voice he has been hearing, and it moves via the school's plumbing system. He also realizes that Moaning Myrtle was the student who was slain in the first attack.

Ginny Weasley is led inside the Chamber of Secrets. When Harry and Ron find the door in Myrtle's bathroom, they compel Lockhart to accompany them inside the Chamber. Lockhart admits to being a con artist and uses Ron's broken wand to wipe the lads' memories. The spell backfires, obliterating his own memory and separating Ron and Harry with a rockfall.

Harry enters the Chamber and discovers Ginny unconscious. Tom Riddle's apparition reveals that he is Lord Voldemort and the Heir of Slytherin. He had already framed Hagrid and unlocked the Chamber. Through his diary, he has been possessing and influencing Ginny, who has been acting oddly. The basilisk is then released. Fawkes, Dumbledore's phoenix, appears and brings Harry the Sorting Hat. Harry takes the Sword of Godric Gryffindor from the Sorting Hat after Fawkes blinds the basilisk. He kills it, despite being poisoned in the process. Fawkes' tears heal Harry while Riddle teases him. Harry stabs Riddle's journal with a basilisk fang, destroying it and Riddle, and returning Ginny.

Returning to the castle are Harry, Ron, Ginny, and Lockhart. Dumbledore, who is interested in Ginny's journal, saves her. Lucius Malfoy storms in, enraged by Dumbledore's reappearance. Dobby, the Malfoys' servant, is accompanying him. The journal was in the Malfoys' hands, and Lucius snuck it into Ginny's cauldron to unlock the Chamber when they were at Diagon Alley. Harry deceives Lucius into releasing Dobby; Lucius strikes Harry in retaliation, but Dobby magically deflects him.

The petrified students are healed, Gryffindor reclaims the House Cup, Hagrid reappears, Lockhart is sent to a mental institution for the rest of his life, and Harry returns to Privet Drive in great spirits.

Summary

Since Harry's parents died 10 years ago, he has lived with his violent aunt and uncle, Vernon and Petunia Dursley, and their bullying son, Dudley. After Vernon and Petunia destroyed the previous ones, a half-giant named Rubeus Hagrid personally presents a letter of admittance to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry on his eleventh birthday. Harry learns that his magical parents, James and Lily, were murdered by Lord Voldemort, the terrible and powerful dark wizard. Harry escaped Voldemort's deadly spell, which reverberated off his brow and appeared to slay the Dark Lord. Harry was left with a lightning-bolt scar on his forehead, and he became well-known in the wizarding community.

Hagrid leads Harry to Diagon Alley, London's secret wizard shopping and trade district. Harry's parents have bequeathed him a large sum of money, which is kept at Gringotts Wizarding Bank. Ollivander sells Harry school supplies and a wand, claiming that the cores of Harry's and Lord Voldemort's wands contain feathers from the same phoenix bird, making them "brothers." Hagrid presents Harry with an owl named Hedwig. Harry boarded the Hogwarts Express at King's Cross railway station's hidden Platform 93/4 a month later. On the way to Hogwarts, Harry encounters Ronald Weasley, a fellow first-year student, and Hermione Granger, whom the two lads first hate. Draco Malfoy, a first-year student, gets in Harry's way.

A magical Sorting Hat at Hogwarts allocates first-year students to one of four school Houses — Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw – based on their personalities. Harry is adamant about not getting put into Slytherin, which is infamous for harboring dark wizards. Draco is sent to Slytherin, while Harry, Ron, and Hermione are assigned to Gryffindor.

Harry's skill for broomstick flying gets him a spot as the Seeker on the Gryffindor Quidditch team. Severus Snape, the Potions instructor who favors Slytherin while attempting to fail Harry, grows to loathe Harry. Malfoy dupes Harry and Ron into risking expulsion by staying out beyond curfew. Hermione, powerless to stop them, joins them. Recognizing Malfoy's trick, they seek refuge in a prohibited hallway, where they come with a massive three-headed dog guarding a trapdoor.

Later, at the school's Halloween party, Ron and Harry save Hermione from a troll, and the three become closest friends. With Snape's recent leg injury and odd behavior, Harry, Hermione, and Ron suspect he is attempting to enter the trapdoor.

Hermione urges the lads against further investigation and instead turns Harry's attention to his first Quidditch match. Snape's unusual behavior throughout the competition, as well as his broomstick's attempts to buck him off, convince Hermione that he jinxed Harry's broom. When Christmas approaches, Harry receives an unidentified present — his father's invisibility cloak. Using it to explore the school, he discovers the Mirror of Erised, which displays to the viewer what he or she most wishes.

The trio read a newspaper article on an attempted heist of the Gringotts vault Hagrid had visited while assisting Harry. They believe the thing hidden behind the trapdoor is the philosopher's stone, which provides its possessor immortality and the capacity to transform any metal into pure gold. Firenze, a woodland centaur, informs Harry that Voldemort is planning to take the stone to restore his body. When the school's headmaster, Albus Dumbledore, is enticed away from Hogwarts under false pretenses, Harry, Hermione, and Ron worry for their safety and fall via the trapdoor.

Due to a series of setbacks, Ron and Hermione are forced to stay behind while Harry continues. Professor Quirrell, Harry's Defense against the Dark Arts instructor, explains that he attempted to murder Harry by jinxing his broom and allowing the troll to enter the school; Snape was attempting to defend Harry. Quirrell is being used by Voldemort to get the philosopher's stone and his face is linked to the back of his skull. Harry is compelled to appear in front of the Erised Mirror. It sees Harry's lack of desire for the stone and places it in his pocket. Quirrell tries to take the stone and murder Harry, but his flesh burns. Harry's scar becomes inflamed, and he faints.

In the school's hospital, Harry awakens. Harry escaped Voldemort, according to Dumbledore, because his mother sacrificed her life for him and left a magical protecting spell. Quirrell's anger and avarice drove him to catch fire when he came into touch with Harry and Voldemort left him to die. Dumbledore explains that he gave Harry the invisibility cloak and that the philosopher's stone, which had kept Nicolas Flamel alive for so long, had been destroyed to prevent it from being seized. During the school's year-end feast, Gryffindor is presented with the House Cup. Harry moves back in with the Dursleys in Privet Drive.

Summary

While driving with Rachel Dare, Percy Jackson is accosted by Charles Beckendorf, and the two set out to assault Luke's ship, Princess Andromeda. Because of a spy at Camp Half-Blood, Kronos, who is housed in Luke's mortal body, is not caught off guard, and Beckendorf is murdered in an explosion. Later, Percy awakens in the underwater kingdom of his father Poseidon, which is under attack by the Titan Oceanus. Poseidon sends Percy back to Camp Half-Blood to hear the "Great Prophecy," but Percy wants to help fight. Percy reports the spy to the camp and learns that the Olympians are battling Typhon.

That night, Percy departs with Nico di Angelo, Hades' son, in search of information on how to fight Kronos. Percy obtains a blessing from his mother after visiting Luke's mother in Westport, Connecticut, and speaking with Hestia. He subsequently goes into the underworld, where he bathes in the River Styx and accepts Achilles' curse. Percy succeeds despite being deceived by Nico in return for information about the boy's mother. He exploits his new invulnerability to battle a tiny army of Hades' henchmen.

Percy appears in New York City after emerging from the Underworld, leaving Nico to persuade his father to join the fight against Kronos. Percy enlists the assistance of the campers to protect Olympus, as the gods refuse to give up their fight with Typhon. New York City is put to sleep by a tremendous sleeping spell cast by Morpheus, Hecate, and Kronos himself just before the conflict begins. Despite the addition of Thalia's Hunters of Artemis, the Party Ponies, and a few other allies, the Olympian army is unable to repel the Titan army's relentless attacks. Out of the original 40 campers, about 16 perish at Camp Half-Blood.

When Annabeth shields Percy from an attack by Ethan Nakamura that would have hit Percy in the Achilles tendon, she sustains a serious injury. Despite these defeats, Percy rejects Prometheus' offer of surrender and entrusts Hestia with the Titan's gift of Pandora's pithos. The campers destroy Hyperion, which enrages Kronos even more. Rachel Dare, who has been having unexplained prophesy moments, appears to warn Percy of a drakon that can only be slain by an Ares kid.

Silena Beauregard, dressed as Ares' chief counselor Clarisse, enters and breaks the cabin's war boycott, wounding herself in the process. In a fit of rage, the real Clarisse comes and kills the drakon on her own. The campers discover that Silena was the camp's spy, but that after her boyfriend Beckendorf died, she opted to atone for her wrongdoings.

Percy visits his father and requests that Poseidon join the battle against Typhon, which he grudgingly accepts. Percy and his allies are driven back to the blocks around the Empire State Building, where they make their final stand to preserve Mount Olympus. Kronos succeeds to reach Olympus even as Hades arrives with Nico and an army. Percy confronts Kronos without obtaining a meaningful edge for either side. The warriors may see Typhon nearing New York in an Iris message-vision, only to be vanquished by Poseidon and his Cyclopes.

Ethan Nakamura likewise defies Kronos' predictions, but he is assassinated. When Kronos threatens Annabeth, Luke regains control of his body and, with the help of Percy, injures himself to the brink of death, killing Kronos. Luke informs Percy before he dies that Ethan was correct; the battle was sparked by the wrath of unrecognized gods and unclaimed offspring. He passes away quietly, and his body is carried away by the Fates.

Thalia, Grover, Annabeth, Tyson, Clarisse, and Nico are among the heroes rewarded by the gods for their contributions to the destruction of the Titans. Percy is finally called forward. Zeus bestows to him the greatest of all gifts: immortal godhood. To the Olympians' surprise, Percy instead begs the gods to vow on the River Styx that they will claim all demigods by the age of thirteen, build homes for all minor gods and Hades' offspring, and grant amnesty to innocent Titans and former friends like Calypso. Percy also breaks Zeus', Poseidon's, and Hades' oaths not to produce demigod offspring.

Kronos isn't dead, Hermes tells Percy, but he's been spread so thin that he'll never form a mind, much alone a body again, because the Titans can't die any more than the gods can. Percy finds Rachel's plans to become the next Oracle after the conference, and he hurries to camp with Annabeth and Nico. Rachel is firmly established as the next Oracle under Apollo's guidance, and she delivers the next Great Prophecy. Percy's birthday is celebrated by Annabeth, and the two begin dating shortly after the chapter ends. Camp Half-Blood is slowly returning to normal as the gods keep their new vows. The end-of-summer bead pays tribute to the numerous slain demigods.

Summary

Percy Jackson goes to Goode High School for freshman orientation, where he meets Rachel Elizabeth Dare, a mortal who can see through the Mist. She assists him in defeating two empousai and escaping. Grover is in trouble with the Council of Cloven Elders for not having found Pan, so Percy travels to Camp Half-Blood. Annabeth and Percy accidentally find an entrance into the Labyrinth during a competition organized by the new sword instructor Quintus, which presents a possible invasion route for Luke. Annabeth is tasked with finding Daedalus and persuading him not to give Luke Ariadne's string, which would aid him in navigating the Labyrinth.

Grover, Percy, and Tyson are her chosen companions. Before leaving, Percy learns that Nico plans to resurrect his late sister (with the help of King Minos) by exchanging her soul for the soul of someone who has escaped death – someone like Percy. Before arriving at Geryon's ranch and meeting Nico, the questers face a number of challenges in the maze, including encounters with Briares, the Sphinx, and Janus. They go in search of Hephaestus, and after speaking with him, they split up: Tyson and Grover go in search of Pan, while Annabeth and Percy go to the god's forge in Mount St. Helens' volcano.

Kronos' smiths almost kill Percy in the forge, but he escapes by causing an earthquake that helps him get ejected from the volcano. When Percy awakens, he is on the island of Ogygia with Calypso, the Titan Atlas's daughter. Calypso tells Percy that she is cursed to fall in love with every hero who visits her island, but that the hero will never be able to stay. Percy realizes that he, too, must leave after Hephaestus informs him of events in the mortal world. Percy and Annabeth return to Camp Half-Blood and travel to Manhattan in search of Rachel, who should be able to navigate the Labyrinth.

Despite being kidnapped by Luke's minions, they make it to Daedalus' workshop and discover Quintus is an ancient inventor who lives as an automaton. He informs them that he has already aided Luke, believing they would not be able to withstand a Titan assault. Luke discovers the group and informs them that Minos has been planning to swap Daedalus' soul for his own. The four teenagers fight to get out of the maze, while Daedalus, who has been betrayed, remains in the maze with his hellhound.

Later, they discover the Titan castle of Mount Othrys and learn that Luke has been possessed by Kronos in some way. They run into Grover and Tyson and come to Pan's resting place, where he speaks to them and imparts a piece of his fading spirit to each of them. After that, the party, except Rachel, returns to Camp Half-Blood to battle. The Titan army streams out of the Labyrinth, seemingly winning until Daedalus comes with Mrs. O'Leary and Briares, who murder Kampê.

Grover causes a Panic, scaring away the remaining Titan soldiers. After the battle, Nico assists Daedalus in escaping the Labyrinth and destroys it. Percy departs camp for the school year after a memorial service for the deceased campers. At the conclusion of the summer, Percy receives a visit from his father Poseidon, who presents him with a sand dollar and advises him to "use it carefully." Nico subsequently comes and tells Percy about his plan to finally beat Luke.

Summary:

Sally Jackson gives Percy Jackson, Annabeth Chase, and Thalia Grace a trip to Westover Hall, a boarding school in Bar Harbor, Maine, where they would escort two half-blood siblings called Nico and Bianca di Angelo to Camp Half-Blood. An instructor dubbed Dr. Thorn, who is actually a manticore attacks them. Dr. Thorn dives from a cliff with Annabeth on his back, despite the arrival of the goddess Artemis and her hunters.

Artemis is worried by the manticore's description of a "Great Stirring" of monsters, and she sets out on her own to track down an Olympus-devouring monster she believes has finally returned from Tartarus. She rides her brother Apollo's solar chariot to Camp Half-Blood with the half-bloods and Hunters (who now include Bianca di Angelo when she accepts their pledge).

Percy and his Pegasus pal Blackjack save a sea monster named Bessie at camp, while Artemis' henchman Zo Nightshade begins experiencing strange visions about Artemis in dire peril. Annabeth saves Luke from being crushed by a cave roof by holding it up for him in Percy's nightmares. Both Zo and Percy are unable to intervene until the Oracle (an elderly mummy) escapes from the Big House's attic on his own, during a capture the flag game in which Thalia and Percy come dangerously close to colliding.

Zo and Chiron plan a journey when it gives a prophecy to her, and she decides to invite Thalia, Grover Underwood, Bianca, and another Hunter along (who is then taken out of commission by a deadly prank). Due to their chastity vows, the Hunters refuse to travel or socialize with a man; hence Percy is not allowed to attend. He catches up with Nico before departing, promising to keep Bianca safe during the mission. He successfully escapes camp on Blackjack and joins the party, but he is nearly stopped by Mr. D atop the Chrysler Building, who only decides to let him go because there is a good probability Percy will be murdered while on the mission.

Percy spots Dr. Thorn entering the National Museum of Natural History when he arrives in Washington, D.C., and pursues him using Annabeth's invisibility hat. There's Luke Castellan and a big man named the General, and they've summoned spartoi, zombie skeleton warriors, to hunt down the official quest party, who are nearby at the National Air and Space Museum. Percy tries to warn the party, but the Nemean lion attacks them before they can flee. They battle the lion and kill it, with Percy claiming the lion's impenetrable pelt as a prize.

The quest group and Percy leave and, with the help of Apollo (posing as a homeless man), freighthop to Cloudcroft, New Mexico. Grover detects the presence of the god Pan in Cloudcroft, who sent the Erymanthian boar to aid them in their escape from the spartoi. The boar transports them to Gila Claw, Arizona, where the "Junkyard of the Gods" is located. The trio enters the junkyard after a brief interaction with Ares and Aphrodite (in which Aphrodite examines Percy's infatuation with Annabeth while also warning him of the hazards of the Junkyard), where Bianca attempts to steal a cursed sculpture for Nico. Her thievery wakes a Talos prototype, and she sacrifices her life to bring it down.

After stealing boats, the remaining quest members sulk their way to Hoover Dam. Percy encounters Rachel Elizabeth Dare, a mortal girl who can see through the Mist, and the quest members narrowly escape the spartoi once more with the assistance of Athena (posing as a tour guide), landing in San Francisco on the backs of two bronze winged angels.

Percy meets Nereus when he reaches there and here he learns that Artemis is looking for Bessie because it is the monster, the ophiotaurus he rescued back at camp with blackjack, a creature whose entrails may be burnt to gain the ability to destroy Olympus. Using this knowledge, Luke tries to persuade Thalia to join the Titans, despite the fact that she is almost 16 and looks to be the hero of the Great Prophecy, and she reluctantly rejects it.

Grover returns to Camp Half-Blood with Bessie after the last confrontation with Dr. Thorn, in which Percy begs Mr. D to help him kill the manticore, and Percy offers the Nemean lion's pelt to Poseidon in thanks for their safe travel. Frederick Chase, Annabeth's father, and an aircraft pilot is sought by Zo, Percy, and Thalia in the hopes that he can assist them in reaching their last destination: Mount Tamalpais, the current location of the Titans' citadel on Mount Othrys.

They proceed to the Garden of the Hesperides in Professor Chase's automobile. After confronting the Hesperides (of whom Zo is an exiled member owing to her aiding Heracles in stealing a golden apple during the Labors of Hercules by handing him Riptide, Percy's sword), Zo is injured by the dragon Ladon's venom as they pass through. The gang discovers Artemis performing his duty where the Titan Atlas formerly held up the sky. Percy momentarily lifts the sky's weight from Artemis so she may battle the Titan after witnessing Annabeth tied up and taken prisoner by Luke, and realizing that "the General" is not only Atlas but also Zo's father.

Artemis confronts Atlas and, with Percy's aid, is able to re-trap him under the sky, but not before injuring Zo by shoving her down a cliff. Thalia fights Luke and is supposedly killed as she kicks him down the side of the mountain. They escape and proceed to a nearby airport in Artemis' silver chariot with the assistance of Mr. Chase, who comes in a biplane equipped with machine guns that fire heavenly bronze bullets. Shortly after landing, Zo succumbs to her injuries, and Artemis creates a new constellation in her honor. After that, the remainder of the group heads to Mount Olympus.

Artemis ultimately persuades the gods to intervene against the Titans during the winter solstice assembly. Artemis asks Thalia to become an immortal Huntress and she accepts, delaying the Great Prophecy by keeping her 15 years old for the remainder of her life. Percy's father, Poseidon, informs him that Luke has miraculously survived. Percy is warned by Athena to keep away from Annabeth. Returning to Camp Half-Blood, the two are dubious and concerned about the future.

However, before Percy can return home, he is obliged to explain Bianca's death to Nico. Nico instantly accuses Percy, claiming that he promised to keep her safe. When a swarm of spartoi arrives to attack Percy, Nico exiles them to the underworld, revealing himself to be Hades' son. Shortly afterward, Nico flees camp, and Percy reveals the truth about Nico's origins to Annabeth and Grover. They agree to keep the truth hidden from everyone else, especially the Titans' army because it implies that the Great Prophecy now has two prospective heroes.

Summary

Percy Jackson and the Olympians opens with Percy dreaming about Grover being pursued by a monster. He wakes up on the last day of his seventh-grade year at Meriwether College Prep, a calm year. There, he became friends with Tyson, a homeless youngster who the school adopted as a charity project. Percy is ambushed by a band of Laestrygonians during a game of dodgeball in gym class but is saved by Tyson and Annabeth, who were on their way back to Camp Half-Blood after having visions about the camp being in danger. The three go to Long Island in a magical cab piloted by the Graeae. They arrive at the camp to find a group of campers led by Clarisse LaRue fighting two Colchis bulls.

Tyson is given permission to cross the camp's perimeter once more in order to save Percy. He is shown to be a newborn Cyclops and Percy's half-brother, as he is also a Poseidon's offspring. By poisoning the demigod Thalia's tree, some unknown foe has undermined the defensive walls of Camp Half-Blood, leaving the campers susceptible to future monster attacks. Chiron, the camp counselor, is sacked after being suspected of poisoning the tree.

Chiron observes before departing that only the Golden Fleece has the power to save the camp. Stymphalian birds attack during the chariot races shortly after, but Percy and Annabeth use Chiron's boombox and Dean Martin's "Volare" to distract them, allowing the Apollo campers to fire them down.

Tantalus is appointed as the new camp counselor due to his charm and sword skills. Tantalus sends Clarisse LaRue to retrieve the Golden Fleece as a prize for winning the chariot race and bans anyone else from leaving camp without his permission. Percy leaves camp with Annabeth and Tyson to find Grover after speaking with the deity Hermes concerning the fate of his son Luke. The trio arrives at the Princess Andromeda, a cruise ship populated with monsters and demigods that have united with the giant Kronos, with the assistance of a hippocampus named Rainbow.

They are apprehended aboard the ship by Luke Castellan, who reveals that he is planning to resurrect Kronos. Annabeth, Thalia, and Luke narrowly escape on an emergency lifeboat and seek refuge in a hideaway they made as youngsters. A hydra tracks them down and attacks them, but Clarisse and her ship, the CSS Birmingham, save them.

Clarisse's search and travel to the Bermuda Triangle are joined by Annabeth, Percy, and Tyson (also known as Sea of Monsters). The ship tries to cross between Charybdis and Scylla in order to reach the Sea of Monsters, but they attack and destroy it. Percy and Annabeth board a lifeboat and travel to the nearest island when Clarisse becomes separated from the others and Tyson appears to be dead in the explosion. After passing across the narrow strait guarded by Charybdis and Scylla, the two arrive on the island of the witch-queen Circe, much as Odysseus did.

When they realize Circe has transformed scores of men into guinea pigs, they board the legendary pirate ship Queen Anne's Revenge, which Percy is able to command using just his abilities, leaving legendary Blackbeard along with his crew to deal with Circe. Percy and Annabeth pass by the Sirens, and Annabeth confides in Percy about her fears.

They arrive at the island of Percy's half-brother, the Cyclops Polyphemus, to find that he has taken Clarisse captive. Percy and Annabeth encounter Grover, who is posing as a female Cyclops to deceive Polyphemus into not eating him, before embarking on their trek to the island's heart. Tyson arrives to assist as well, having been rescued from the wreckage of the Birmingham by Rainbow. They locate the Golden Fleece, but the Queen Anne's Revenge is destroyed by Polyphemus, forcing the gang to flee on Rainbow and a few other ships.

Percy discovers in Miami that Clarisse must return to camp alone in order to fulfill her prophecy, but he and the others are taken by Luke. Percy is kidnapped and taken onboard the Princess Andromeda, where he makes contact with Camp Half-Blood through the goddess Iris and charms Luke into confessing, exonerating Chiron, and restoring him to his rightful place. Luke is outraged and fights Percy, but Chiron and the Party Ponies arrive to save them, and Chiron reveals that he is distrusted since Kronos is his father.

Thalia's pine tree is healed once the Golden Fleece is placed on it. After clearing the difficulty of Polyphemus drawing in searchers through the Golden Fleece, Grover is granted a furlough on his solo mission to discover the deity, Pan. Percy and Annabeth win a second chariot race with the assistance of Tyson, who departs after accepting an offer from Poseidon to work in the god's underwater Cyclops forges. The Fleece's enchantment, however, is too powerful, and it resurrects Thalia, offering another prospective demigod for the Great Prophecy, which Percy learns was Kronos' goal all along.

Summary

Percy goes home for summer break, after which he and his mortal mother Sally Jackson head to their Montauk property to avoid Percy's stepfather, Gabe Ugliano. However, the journey is cut short due to a series of traumatic experiences, such as being assaulted by the Minotaur, which results in his mother's death. Percy finds himself in Camp Half-Blood, a training facility for demigods such as himself.

He learns he is a demigod, the son of Poseidon, the Greek god of the sea. Percy also discovers that his best friend, Grover Underwood, is a satyr, a woodland spirit with a human torso, horns, and a goat's lower body and that Zeus accuses him of stealing his Master Bolt, the universe's most powerful weapon. Percy sets out to reclaim the lightning bolt from Hades, who is accused of being the true thief, in order to clear his name, prevent the world from another battle between the Olympian gods, and maybe even save his mother.

As a result, Percy, Grover, and Annabeth Chase, an Athena's daughter, embark on a voyage to the underworld, encountering several mythical creatures along the way. After confronting an innocent Hades, they discover that their friend Luke Castellan, son of Hermes, is the true thief who stole the Lightning Bolt (also known as the Master Bolt) in order to give Kronos (also spelled Cronos or Cronus), the defeated King of the Titans from the past, a chance to rise again, and that Ares, the Greek god of war, assisted in covering up Luke's crime in order to spark an Olympian war.

Summary

Santiago, an Andalusian shepherd youth, seeks the significance of a reoccurring dream from a Gypsy fortune-teller. The lady sees it as a prophecy, predicting that the boy would find a fortune among the Egyptian pyramids.

After leaving, Santiago encounters an elderly monarch named Melchizedek, also known as the King of Salem, who advises him to sell his sheep and travel to Egypt to fulfill his "Personal Legend." Upon Santiago's arrival in Africa, a guy who promises to be able to take him to the pyramids actually robs him of the money he had earned from his flock. Santiago must next work for a crystal dealer in order to save enough money to travel to the pyramids.

Along the way, the youngster encounters an Englishman in quest of an alchemist, and the two continue their journey together. When they arrive in an oasis, Santiago meets and falls in love with Fatima, an Arabian girl, and proposes to her. She vows to marry him only when he has completed his voyage. He is first frustrated but subsequently learns that genuine love will not cease and that one must not surrender one's destiny to it, since doing so would strip it of its truth.

After that, the young man meets a knowledgeable alchemist who teaches him how to recognize his actual nature. They risk a voyage across warring tribes' areas, where Santiago must prove his oneness with "the soul of the earth" by turning himself into a dust storm before being permitted to continue. When he starts digging near the pyramids, he is robbed again, but he learns from the thief's leader that the riches he was looking for were all along where his first dream took place in a crumbling church.
