Summary

The community of French Landing, Wisconsin, has been plagued by a series of murders. The killer has been called "The Fisherman" because he made a determined attempt to imitate serial killer Albert Fish's tactics.

The murderer in French Landing, like Fish, preys on youngsters and eats their bodies. As the narrative begins, two victims have already been discovered, with a third on the way.

People all around the region are growing increasingly concerned as a result of the nature of the crimes and the local police's failure to apprehend the perpetrator, and certain segments of the local media are exacerbating the issue with inflammatory and provocative coverage.

Jack Sawyer has suppressed memories of his exploits in The Territories and his search for the Talisman as a twelve-year-old kid following the events of The Talisman; however, the residue of these events have served to subtly alter his life even after he has forgotten them.

Jack rose through the ranks of the Los Angeles Police Department to become a lieutenant, where his professionalism and remarkable talent have earned him a near-legendary reputation.

When a string of killings in Los Angeles is linked to a farm insurance salesman from French Landing, Wisconsin, Jack joins forces with the French Landing cops to apprehend the assailant.

Jack is magnetically enthralled by the natural splendor of the Coulee Country while in Wisconsin, recalling his childhood experience in The Territories

Certain characteristics of the murder scene threaten to reawaken his suppressed recollections when he subsequently intrudes on a homicide investigation in Santa Monica.

He then resigns from the Los Angeles Police Department and relocates to French Landing to enjoy his early retirement.

When the Fisherman begins terrorizing French Landing, the police practically beg Jack Sawyer for help, and are taken aback when he coldly refuses.

The events of Santa Monica threaten to overwhelm Jack, and he thinks that becoming involved in the inquiry would cause him to lose his mind.

When the Fisherman kidnaps a fourth child, Jack's aloofness is no longer possible. The Fisherman swiftly reveals himself to be much more than a serial killer.

He is, in reality, a Crimson King agent tasked with locating youngsters who have the potential to serve as Breakers. Tyler Marshall, the fourth victim, is one of the most powerful Breakers ever, and he may be all the Crimson King needs to shatter the remaining Dark Tower beams and put an end to all worlds.

Because the Fisherman may also "flip" into The Territories, Jack Sawyer is not just the sole chance for French Landing, but for all of existence.

Summary

Voldemort seized control of the Ministry of Magic after Dumbledore's death. Meanwhile, Harry is about to turn seventeen and will no longer be protected by his deceased mother. Members of the Order of the Phoenix relocate the Dursleys and plan to fly Harry to the Burrow using decoys. When they leave, they are attacked by Death Eaters, and "Mad-Eye" Moody and Hedwig are dead, while George Weasley is injured. Voldemort arrives to assassinate Harry, but Harry's wand defends him on its own.

Harry, Ron, and Hermione are getting ready to track down Voldemort's final four Horcruxes. Each receives a Golden Snitch from Dumbledore, a Deluminator from Ron, and "The Tales of Beedle the Bard" from Hermione. They are also handed the Sword of Godric Gryffindor, which has the ability to erase Horcruxes, but the Ministry bans them from using it. The Ministry falls to Voldemort during Bill Weasley and Fleur Delacour's wedding, and Death Eaters attack the wedding banquet. The three flees to 12 Grimmauld Place, Sirius Black's ancestral house, which he has given to Harry.

Sirius's late brother, Regulus, took the Horcrux locket and concealed it in the home, they discover. Mundungus Fletcher later took it. House-elf Kreacher tracks down Fletcher, who claims Dolores Umbridge stole the locket. The trio infiltrates the Ministry and steals the locket from Umbridge, but their escape compromises Grimmauld Place. They take refuge in the woods, unable to destroy the locket and with no other leads. The sinister aspect of the locket upsets Ron, and he leaves the group.

Harry and Hermione discover Dumbledore's relationship with the wicked wizard Gellert Grindelwald. Nagini attacks them as they journey to Godric's Hollow, Harry's birthplace. They manage to flee, but Harry's wand is damaged. Patronus, a doe, leads Harry to a pond housing Gryffindor's sword one night. The locket around Harry's neck nearly kills him as he tries to reclaim it. Ron saves him and smashes the locket after being directed back by the Deluminator.

Hermione discovers a sign worn by Luna Lovegood's father, Xenophilius Lovegood, in Dumbledore's book. According to him, the sign depicts the fabled Deathly Hallows: the Elder Wand, an unbeatable wand; the Resurrection Stone, which can call the dead; and an impenetrable Invisibility Cloak. When Xenophilius begins to act suspiciously, the group realizes Luna has been kidnapped. In exchange for Luna's release, Xenophillius summons Death Eaters to capture them, but they escape. Voldemort, Harry deduces, is looking for the Elder Wand, which Dumbledore received after defeating Grindelwald. Harry deduces that his Invisibility Cloak is the third Hallow, and his Snitch holds the Resurrection Stone.

The group is apprehended and transported to Malfoy Manor. Bellatrix tortures Hermione because she believes they stole Gryffindor's sword from her Gringotts vault. They escape to Bill and Fleur's cottage with the assistance of Dobby the house-elf, along with other inmates, including the goblin Griphook. Bellatrix murders Dobby during the escape. Voldemort steals the Elder Wand from Dumbledore's grave, according to Harry's vision.

The group decides to break into Bellatrix's vault in the hopes of finding another Horcrux. They break in, take Hufflepuff's cup, and flee with Griphook's assistance, but Griphook steals Gryffindor's sword in the process. Voldemort is alerted of the robbery, and he decides to examine his Horcruxes, revealing the remaining ones to Harry: Nagini and one buried at Hogwarts.

The three arrive at Hogwarts with the assistance of Dumbledore's brother Aberforth. Voldemort launches an attack on Hogwarts after learning of Harry's location. Teachers and kids band together to defend the school. Ron and Hermione use basilisk fangs from the Chamber of Secrets to smash Hufflepuff's cup. Harry realizes Ravenclaw's diadem is the Horcrux. Draco, Crabbe, and Goyle attack the three as they search for the diadem in the Room of Requirement. Crabbe assaults them with a cursed fire but is unable to control it, killing him and destroying the diadem. Meanwhile, many people are slain as a result of Voldemort's attack, including Remus Lupin, Nymphadora Tonks, and Fred Weasley.

Voldemort believes the Elder Wand is not working as it should. Voldemort murders Snape because he believes Snape, who murdered Dumbledore, is its rightful master. As Snape dies, Harry comes, and Snape passes him memories to examine in the Pensieve. They disclose that Snape adored Harry's mother and worked as a double agent for Voldemort. He had kept an eye on the three, summoning the doe Patronus. It is also revealed that Dumbledore was dying as a result of his mismanagement of the ring Horcrux and that he had arranged his "death" at Snape's hands.

Harry also discovers that, unbeknownst to Voldemort, he is an inadvertent Horcrux who must die at Voldemort's hands to become mortal. Harry surrenders, directing Neville Longbottom to assassinate Nagini. On the journey, he uses Snitch's Resurrection Stone to reconcile with his parents and other departed loved ones. When he encounters Voldemort, he drops the stone, and Voldemort casts the Killing Curse on him.

Dumbledore greets Harry as he awakens in a dreamy place like King's Cross. He says that Voldemort's first Killing Curse left a piece of his soul in Harry, resulting in their bond. The most recent Killing Curse removed the soul piece, allowing Harry to resurrect or "go on." Harry resurrects and pretends to die. Voldemort declares a ceasefire and demands their surrender at Hogwarts. Neville, on the other hand, takes Gryffindor's sword from the Sorting Hat and murders Nagini.

Molly Weasley murders Bellatrix, and Harry reveals himself to Voldemort. He reveals that Elder Wand's fealty is transferred by defeating, rather than murdering, its former master. The Elder Wand's master had been Draco, not Snape, who had disarmed Dumbledore before Snape murdered him. Harry now wields the Elder Wand after disarming Draco at Malfoy Manor. Voldemort casts the Killing Curse on Harry, but the spell returns and kills Voldemort. Harry repairs his original wand with the Elder Wand before returning it to Dumbledore's grave. He maintains his Invisibility Cloak and abandons the Resurrection Stone. The wizarding world has returned to normalcy.

Epilogue

The Major characters are seeing their children go to Hogwarts 19 years later. James Sirius, Albus Severus, and Lily Luna are Harry and Ginny's three children. Rose and Hugo are Ron and Hermione's two children. Teddy Lupin, Harry's godson, is seen kissing Bill and Fleur's daughter Victoire, as Draco and his wife are sending off their son Scorpius. Albus is about to start his first year at Hogwarts and is concerned that he will be sent to Slytherin. Harry reassures him, reminding his son of Snape's courage and how the Sorting Hat might explain his wishes. Harry remarks that "everything is good" because his scar hasn't ached in 19 years.

Summary

Draco's mother, Narcissa Malfoy, and her sister, Bellatrix Lestrange, a Lord Voldemort supporter, meet with Severus Snape, a member of the Order of the Phoenix. Narcissa is concerned that her son will not be able to complete a mission that Voldemort has assigned to him. Snape swears to help Draco in an Unbreakable Vow with Narcissa.

Harry is collected by Dumbledore and escorted to the Burrow, the home of Harry's best friend Ron Weasley. They take a detour to the house of Horace Slughorn, a former Hogwarts Potions teacher, and Harry unknowingly assists Slughorn in persuading him to return to teaching.

Harry says he believes Draco is a Death Eater while riding the Hogwarts Express to Hogwarts. Draco brags to his pals about a duty Voldemort has set him, which Harry overhears. Draco captures Harry and petrifies him, fracturing his nose in the process. Nymphadora Tonks tracks Harry down, fixes his nose, and takes him to Hogwarts.

Snape will teach Defence Against the Dark Arts, while Slughorn will teach Potions, according to Dumbledore. Harry discovers an old potion book that previously belonged to "The Half-Blood Prince," a person who penned various spells and advice in the book. Harry does exceptionally well in Potions class, earning a bottle of Felix Felicis, sometimes known as "Liquid Luck." Hermione, on the other hand, is wary about the book.

Ron and Hermione get closer, but after learning about Hermione's history with Viktor Krum through his sister Ginny, Ron dates Lavender Brown, making Hermione envious. After a Gryffindor Quidditch triumph, Harry develops emotions for Ginny, and the two subsequently begin dating with Ron's blessing. Throughout the year, Draco becomes increasingly erratic, acting in increasingly dubious ways.

Meanwhile, Dumbledore and Harry utilize the Pensieve to analyze memories of individuals from Voldemort's history in order to aid Harry in his anticipated battle with Voldemort. Slughorn is seen chatting with a young Tom Riddle in one of the memories, but it has been changed, so Dumbledore orders Harry to retrieve the true memory from Slughorn.

Slughorn instructs Riddle about the procedure of dividing one's soul and concealing it in Horcruxes, making the user almost eternal, and Harry uses Felix Felicis to retrieve the memories. Six Horcruxes were made by Voldemort, and they must be destroyed in order for Voldemort to be eliminated. Tom Riddle's notebook from Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, as well as a ring belonging to Voldemort's grandfather, has already been destroyed; four more remain.

Harry and Dumbledore travel to a cave at the end of the year to recover a Horcrux, Slytherin's locket. The locket is in the center of a lake, in a potion-filled basin. Dumbledore consumes the potion in order to obtain the locket, gravely weakening him. Harry and Dumbledore retrieve the locket and head to Hogwarts to locate the Dark Mark above a school tower after fending off Inferi concealed in the lake.

They reach the top of the tower and are confronted by Draco, who explains that his objective is to assassinate Dumbledore and that he assisted Death Eaters in gaining access to Hogwarts. Draco, on the other hand, is powerless to hurt Dumbledore. When Snape comes, he murders Dumbledore. Harry chases Snape, ignoring the conflict unfolding within Hogwarts, but is vanquished by him. Snape announces that he is the Half-Blood Prince before fleeing.

To protect Ginny, Harry breaks up with her after Dumbledore's funeral. He realizes the locket is a forgery, with a message from "R. A. B." inside. Instead of returning to Hogwarts the next year, Harry proclaims his plan to seek for Horcruxes. Ron and Hermione have promised to follow him.

Summary

Dementors attack Harry Potter and his cousin Dudley over the summer. Harry is expelled from Hogwarts after being forced to magically fend them off, but his expulsion is postponed until a hearing at the Ministry of Magic. A trio of Order of the Phoenix wizards transport Harry to Number 12, Grimmauld Place, Sirius Black's boyhood home.

The Order, according to Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, is a secret organization directed by Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore and committed to defeating Lord Voldemort and the Death Eaters. Voldemort is on the lookout for something he lacked previous to his downfall, according to Harry, Ron, Hermione, Ginny Weasley, and Fred and George Weasley. The Ministry, commanded by Cornelius Fudge, refuses to recognize Voldemort's reappearance and is waging a defamation campaign against Harry and Dumbledore. Dumbledore defends Harry during the hearing, and he is acquitted of all accusations.

Dolores Umbridge, a senior Ministry official, is appointed as the new Defense against the Dark Arts instructor at Hogwarts. She argues with Harry over Voldemort's reappearance and punishes him by having him draw lines with a pen that magically carves "I must not speak falsehoods" onto the back of his hand. When she refuses to teach Harry, Ron, and Hermione defensive magic, they start their own Defense organization with the support of other pupils. As the new High Inquisitor, Umbridge is given the authority by the Ministry to intervene at Hogwarts, and she bans unregistered clubs, forcing Dumbledore's Army to assemble in secret to practice under Harry's instruction in the Room of Requisition

Harry sees Voldemort's serpent Nagini violently assaulting Arthur Weasley one night. Arthur is rescued when Harry alerts Professor McGonagall and Dumbledore. Professor Snape, a member of the Order, is assigned to instruct Harry Occlumency in order to protect his mind from Voldemort's invasions. Dumbledore's Army is finally discovered by Umbridge, and in order to avoid Harry's expulsion, Dumbledore assumes command of the organization and flees into hiding. Umbridge is appointed Headmistress, although she is denied access to Dumbledore's former office.

Harry's Occlumency classes are a disaster. Snape is summoned away during one session, leaving Harry alone with the Pensieve. Snape's recollection of his father, James Potter, and Sirius Black abusing and humiliating Snape at school is shown in it. Snape catches Harry and abruptly terminates the session. During examinations, Harry gets a vision of Sirius being tortured by Voldemort in the Department of Mysteries, and Harry makes no more attempt to safeguard his thoughts. To contact Grimmauld Place, Harry utilizes the floo network in Umbridge's fireplace. Sirius' house-elf, Kreacher, believes he has left.

Umbridge apprehends Harry and demands that Snape interview him using Veritaserum, which he says he no longer has. Harry informs Snape about Sirius in a sneaky manner, which Snape swears he doesn't comprehend. Umbridge admits that she orchestrated the Dementor attack on Harry, and she chooses to use the Cruciatus Curse to interrogate him. Hermione steps in and persuades Umbridge that Dumbledore's secret weapon is hidden somewhere in the Forbidden Forest. She is led into the domain of the centaurs by Harry and Hermione. They kidnap Umbridge after she irritates them.

Harry and Hermione manage to get away from the centaurs. They are joined by Luna, Ron, Ginny, and Neville, and they fly to the Ministry on Thestrals to save Sirius. In the Department of Mysteries, they can't find him, but they do find a glass sphere with Harry's and Voldemort's names on it. Death Eaters headed by Lucius Malfoy assault them, revealing that Harry was duped into coming here with a phony vision in order to get the sphere, which is exactly what Voldemort is looking for - a recording of a prophecy about Harry and Voldemort.

Members of the Order of the Phoenix arrive and fight the Death Eaters. During the battle, Neville breaks the prophecy by mistake, and Bellatrix Lestrange murders Sirius. Harry pursues her, but he is no match for her. Voldemort arrives to assassinate Harry, but Dumbledore enters and battles Voldemort to a draw. In an effort to persuade Dumbledore to kill Harry, Voldemort takes control of Harry, but Harry fights back, forcing Voldemort out just before Fudge arrives. Fudge acknowledges the truth after seeing Voldemort.

Dumbledore says in his office that Snape had recognized Harry's warning and contacted the Order. Dumbledore also mentions that Kreacher informed Lucius' wife, Narcissa, of Harry and Sirius' friendship, which Voldemort exploited. Dumbledore also informs that Harry is safe from Voldemort with the Dursleys, as Petunia, Lily's sister, seals Harry's mother's protection by taking him in.

Dumbledore also exposes the details of the prophecy, which predicted the birth of a person who would be able to vanquish Voldemort. Part of the prophecy was overheard by one of Voldemort's servants, who notified Voldemort, who subsequently attempted to kill the newborn Harry. The rest of the prophecy, which Voldemort missed, said that Voldemort would treat his opponent as an equal and that one of them would finally murder the other.

Harry becomes morose as a result of the prophecy and the loss of Sirius, despite the fact that the wizarding society now holds him in high regard. Harry returns to the Dursleys, spurred on by his cronies.

Summary

Frank Bryce, the Muggle keeper of an abandoned home called the Riddle House, is slain by Lord Voldemort after stumbling upon him and Wormtail in a prologue that Harry sees via a dream. The agony in Harry's scar wakes him up.

Harry and Hermione Granger are invited to the Quidditch World Cup by the Weasleys, and they travel there using a Portkey. Masked Death Eaters, disciples of Voldemort, invade the camping site after the match. The Dark Mark is launched into the sky, sparking terror among the population. Harry learns that his wand has vanished. It was subsequently discovered in Winky's hands, Barty Crouch's house elf, and was used to cast the Dark Mark. Winky is shot by Barty Crouch.

Professor Dumbledore names Alastor "Mad-Eye" Moody as the next Defence Against the Dark Arts instructor at Hogwarts. Dumbledore also reveals that the Triwizard Tournament would be held at Hogwarts, with a Hogwarts champion competing against champions from other wizarding schools. The champions will be chosen from a list of names placed into the Goblet of Fire. Only students aged 17 and over are eligible to participate. Harry is not allowed to enter the wizarding realm since he is under the age of majority.

Fleur Delacour of Beauxbatons Academy, Viktor Krum of Durmstrang Institute, and Cedric Diggory of Hogwarts are chosen in The Goblet of Fire. Harry is unexpectedly chosen as the fourth champion, forcing him to battle. Many students, including Ron, feel Harry cheated to get into the competition only for the sake of fame. Between Harry and Ron, a schism arises.

Hagrid informs Harry that the first assignment entails overcoming a dragon and acquiring a golden egg in a secret manner. Harry is stumped as to how to do it until Moody recommends flying. Hermione assists him in the development of a Summoning Charm, which he uses to summon his Firebolt broomstick and fly past the dragon to grab the egg. The egg offers a hint for the next assignment, but it shrieks when opened. Following Cedric's advice, Harry learns that he must rescue something priceless from the Merpeople at the bottom of the castle's lake.

Harry conducts minimal preparation in the weeks leading up to the second challenge and has no idea how to survive underwater. Dobby, who now works at Hogwarts, provides him Gillyweed to breathe underwater on the day of the job after hearing about it from Moody. At the bottom of the water, Harry comes across Ron. He, on the other hand, refuses to abandon the other "hostages." Krum rescues Hermione, but when Fleur fails to show up, Harry abducts Gabrielle, Hermione's sister. Harry comes in last place but receives great scores for moral fiber.

Harry and Krum run into Crouch, who hasn't shown up for work while discussing near the Forbidden Forest. He pretends to have done something dreadful and asks Dumbledore to help him. Harry leaves Krum with Crouch to get Dumbledore, but when he returns, Krum is startled and Crouch has vanished. Moody looks for Crouch but is unsuccessful. Later on, Harry has a dream about Voldemort punishing Wormtail for making a mistake. Harry goes to Dumbledore to inform him of the situation. He discovers a Pensieve in Dumbledore's office while waiting. With it, he learns that Crouch's son, Barty Jr., was a Death Eater who was imprisoned in Azkaban and presumably perished there.

Harry prepares for the last challenge, which involves navigating a hedge labyrinth full of perilous obstacles in order to reach the Triwizard Cup in the center. Harry and Cedric approach the Cup inside the maze and agree to touch it at the same time. It is, however, a Portkey that takes them to a cemetery. Wormtail arrives there, assassinates Cedric on Voldemort's instructions, and conducts a ceremony with Harry in an attempt to resurrect Lord Voldemort.

Voldemort calls his Death Eaters, chastises them for thinking he's dead and reveals that he has a servant at Hogwarts who has guided Harry there. Harry is tortured before he is challenged to a duel. When he and Harry cast charms at each other, however, their wands' streams join because they share a core, allowing echoes of Voldemort's prior spells to materialize, including Cedric and Harry's parents. These echoes assist Harry in escaping to the Cup with Cedric's body and returning to Hogwarts.

In the midst of the chaos produced by Harry's unexpected arrival, Moody transports Harry to his office. He exposes himself to be Voldemort's servant, having placed Harry's name in the Goblet of Fire and accompanied him throughout the competition to ensure he touched the Cup. Dumbledore, McGonagall, and Snape intercede and paralyze Moody as he prepares to murder Harry. Through the use of Polyjuice Potion, Moody is discovered to be impersonated by Barty Crouch Jr., Crouch Srassumed’s deceased son. Crouch Sr. had saved his son to fulfill his dying wife's request, according to Veritaserum.

Crouch Jr. was confined at home until Winky persuaded Crouch Sr. to let him go to the Quidditch Cup, where he managed to escape, steal Harry's wand, and summon the Dark Mark. Crouch Jr. was found by Voldemort, who intended to put him at Hogwarts while kidnapping the real Moody. Wormtail imprisoned Crouch Sr., and when he fled to Hogwarts, Crouch Jr. murdered him.

Voldemort's return to Hogwarts is announced by Dumbledore. Many individuals, including Cornelius Fudge, Minister for Magic, refuse to believe it. Crouch Jr. receives the Dementor's Kiss, making him unable to testify against Voldemort's return. Dumbledore puts Voldemort's schemes into motion. Harry leaves his tournament winnings to Fred and George in order to open a joke business, and then returns to the Dursleys for the summer.

Summary

Harry Potter, now thirteen, endures another terrible summer with the Dursleys. An enraged Harry unintentionally inflates Aunt Marge after she taunts Harry and his departed parents. He flees Hogwarts, fearful of being expelled. Harry is being watched by an enormous black dog on a dark street. Harry staggers backward, making his wand erupt in sparkles. The Knight Bus, a vehicle that transports stranded wizards, appears out of nowhere.

Cornelius Fudge, the Minister for Magic, is waiting for Harry at the Leaky Cauldron in Diagon Alley. Harry is not expelled, but he is requested to stay in Diagon Alley until the start of the school year. Harry meets up with his best pals Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger while he's there. Mr. Weasley warns Harry about the wizard Sirius Black, a convicted killer who has escaped Azkaban prison with the intention of murdering Harry.

The dementors, Azkaban's terrible guardians, board the Hogwarts Express train. As one approaches Harry, he reminisces about his parents' deaths before passing out. Remus Lupin, the new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher, uses a Patronus charm to fend off the beast. Professor Albus Dumbledore of Hogwarts says that dementors are scouring the school grounds in search of Black.

Professor Sybill Trelawney claims the dog-shaped apparition in Harry's tea leaves is the Grim, a spectral death omen, in Divination class. Later, she predicts that Voldemort's servant would return shortly. Harry sees a black dog near the pitch during a Quidditch play, then faints and falls off his broomstick as dementors approach. Harry is unharmed, but his broom is destroyed by the Whomping Willow. Professor Lupin then teaches Harry how to use the Patronus spell to guard off dementors.

The Marauder's Map, a magical chart constructed by four former Hogwarts students named only as "Moony," "Padfoot," "Wormtail," and "Prongs," is given to Harry by Fred and George Weasley. The map depicts every student at Hogwarts as well as seven hidden passages. Harry sneaks into Hogsmeade because he doesn't have guardian permission for school trips. Sirius Black betrayed the Potters to Voldemort and killed their buddy Peter Pettigrew, according to a discussion he overhears there. Black is also Harry's godfather. Black would subsequently break into Hogwarts twice, but Harry will remain unhurt each time.

In the meanwhile, Ron suspects Hermione's cat, Crookshanks, of murdering his missing pet rat Scabbers, putting their relationship to the test. When Harry receives an expensive Firebolt broomstick as an anonymous present, Hermione has it confiscated for examination, suspecting it was delivered by Black. Ron and Harry are enraged with Hermione, who is already overworked due to her overabundance of lessons. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Magic has sentenced Hagrid's hippogriff Buckbeak to death for injuring Draco Malfoy, who purposefully provoked the animal. As they leave Hagrid's hut, Harry, Ron, and Hermione appear to hear Buckbeak's execution. Hermione discovered Scabbers inside when she was there. Scabbers eludes Ron, who pursues him.

Ron is dragged down a tunnel beneath the Whomping Willow by the black dog. Harry and Hermione chase them into the Shrieking Shack, which is said to be haunted. Sirius Black, an unregistered animagus, is the dog. Lupin appears out of nowhere. Pettigrew's name appeared on the Marauder's Map, and Harry realized it was he who had betrayed the Potters, not Black. Lupin admits to being a werewolf, as Hermione believes.

The Marauder's Map was constructed by Lupin (Moony), Black (Padfoot), Pettigrew (Wormtail), and Harry's father, James Potter (Prongs) as students. To tame Lupin during his werewolf phases, the latter three covertly become animagi. Scabbers is Pettigrew in the form of a rat. He is Voldemort's servant who framed Black by faking his death. After learning that Pettigrew was still alive, Black was able to flee Azkaban.

To catch Black, Severus Snape comes. His bigotry stems from a long-held animosity against Sirius Black and James Potter for bullying him in school. Snape is knocked out by Harry, Ron, and Hermione at the same time. Pettigrew is ready to be executed by Lupin and Black, but Harry wants him transported to Azkaban. Lupin transforms into a werewolf when the full moon rises. He's forgotten about his Wolfsbane pill, which helps a werewolf to stay sane while transforming. Black fights him off in his dog shape. As dementors converge on Harry, Hermione, and Black, Pettigrew manages to flee. A strong Patronus is thrown by a faraway person, dispersing the dementors.

The captive Black's soul is ready to be sucked out by dementors. Dumbledore urges Harry and Hermione to save Black and Buckbeak by using Hermione's Time-Turner, a Ministry gadget she uses to attend several classes, to travel back in time and save them. They save Buckbeak and discover that dementors are assaulting their previous selves. Harry summons a Patronus in the shape of a deer, scattering the dementors. Buckbeak is ridden by Harry and Hermione to the tower, where they free Black, who flees on Buckbeak.

Enraged by Black's escape, Snape inadvertently reveals that Lupin is a werewolf, compelling him to retire. Black writes to Harry, claiming to have despatched the Firebolt and granting Harry permission to go on school excursions as his legal guardian.

Summary

Harry, who is twelve years old, is visited by a house-elf named Dobby while spending the summer with the Dursleys. He informs Harry that he is in danger and must leave Hogwarts immediately. Dobby spoils Aunt Petunia and Uncle Vernon's dinner party when Harry refuses. Harry is accused of unlawfully practicing magic by the Ministry of Magic. In response, Harry is locked in his room by a furious Uncle Vernon.

Ron Weasley and his brothers, Fred and George, come in their father's charmed Ford Anglia to retrieve Harry and transport him to their house. Harry and the other Weasleys—Molly, Percy, and Ginny—go to Diagon Alley for school supplies. They encounter Hermione Granger and Lucius Malfoy, the father of Harry's arch-enemy Draco, as well as Gilderoy Lockhart, a pretentious autobiographer adventurer and the new Defense against the Dark Arts professor.

Harry and Ron are unable to enter Platform 93/4 at King's Cross station, and so miss the Hogwarts Express. They fly Mr. Weasley's automobile to school, colliding with the Whomping Willow on school grounds and destroying Ron's hand-me-down wand. The automobile then makes its way into the woods.

Harry learns that some wizards despise Muggle-born wizards like Hermione, believing that pure-bloods are superior. The only person who hears a voice coming from within the castle walls is Harry. Mrs. Norris, Mr. Filch's cat, is discovered frozen on a wall, along with a bloody written warning: "The Door to the Chamber of Secrets has been unlocked. Be wary of the heir's foes "... Salazar Slytherin, one of the school's founders, is said to have founded the Chamber following a disagreement with other founders over the admission of Muggle-born pupils. The Chamber is said to be home to a creature that can only be controlled by the Heir of Slytherin.

A rogue Bludger attacks Harry during a Quidditch match, shattering his arm. When Lockhart tries to mend it, he makes a mistake, and Harry is admitted to the hospital for the night. Dobby pays Harry a visit and admits to charming the Bludger and sealing the doorway at King's Cross. He claims that the Chamber of Secrets has been unlocked previously. When another attack happens, the pupils are forced to attend a dueling session, where Harry reveals that he is a 'Parselmouth,' with a unique ability to communicate with snakes.

Given Draco's antipathy for Muggle-borns, Harry, Ron, and Hermione think Draco is the Heir after another attack. Harry and Ron can imitate Draco's lackeys Crabbe and Goyle with Hermione's secret concoction of Polyjuice Potion. Draco is discovered to be uninvolved. A journal left in her stall is shown to them by Moaning Myrtle, a ghost that haunts a girls' restroom. The diary belonged to Tom Riddle, a student who had seen the death of a fellow student in the previous installment. Within the journal, Riddle's mind declares to Harry that Hagrid is to blame. In the following attack, Hermione is terrified, and the school is put on lockdown. Albus Dumbledore, the Headmaster, and Hagrid, the Hagrid, were forced to leave Hogwarts.

Harry and Ron pursue spiders into the Forbidden Forest, following Hagrid's directions. They come into a massive Acromantula named Aragog, who denies any participation and maintains that spiders are afraid of the true monster. Aragog tries to feed Harry and Ron to its offspring, but they are saved by Mr. Weasley's automobile. Hermione has concluded that the monster is a basilisk, a huge serpent that kills with a gaze and petrifies when seen indirectly, as Harry and Ron find. The basilisk, Harry decides, is the voice he has been hearing, and it moves via the school's plumbing system. He also realizes that Moaning Myrtle was the student who was slain in the first attack.

Ginny Weasley is led inside the Chamber of Secrets. When Harry and Ron find the door in Myrtle's bathroom, they compel Lockhart to accompany them inside the Chamber. Lockhart admits to being a con artist and uses Ron's broken wand to wipe the lads' memories. The spell backfires, obliterating his own memory and separating Ron and Harry with a rockfall.

Harry enters the Chamber and discovers Ginny unconscious. Tom Riddle's apparition reveals that he is Lord Voldemort and the Heir of Slytherin. He had already framed Hagrid and unlocked the Chamber. Through his diary, he has been possessing and influencing Ginny, who has been acting oddly. The basilisk is then released. Fawkes, Dumbledore's phoenix, appears and brings Harry the Sorting Hat. Harry takes the Sword of Godric Gryffindor from the Sorting Hat after Fawkes blinds the basilisk. He kills it, despite being poisoned in the process. Fawkes' tears heal Harry while Riddle teases him. Harry stabs Riddle's journal with a basilisk fang, destroying it and Riddle, and returning Ginny.

Returning to the castle are Harry, Ron, Ginny, and Lockhart. Dumbledore, who is interested in Ginny's journal, saves her. Lucius Malfoy storms in, enraged by Dumbledore's reappearance. Dobby, the Malfoys' servant, is accompanying him. The journal was in the Malfoys' hands, and Lucius snuck it into Ginny's cauldron to unlock the Chamber when they were at Diagon Alley. Harry deceives Lucius into releasing Dobby; Lucius strikes Harry in retaliation, but Dobby magically deflects him.

The petrified students are healed, Gryffindor reclaims the House Cup, Hagrid reappears, Lockhart is sent to a mental institution for the rest of his life, and Harry returns to Privet Drive in great spirits.

Summary

Since Harry's parents died 10 years ago, he has lived with his violent aunt and uncle, Vernon and Petunia Dursley, and their bullying son, Dudley. After Vernon and Petunia destroyed the previous ones, a half-giant named Rubeus Hagrid personally presents a letter of admittance to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry on his eleventh birthday. Harry learns that his magical parents, James and Lily, were murdered by Lord Voldemort, the terrible and powerful dark wizard. Harry escaped Voldemort's deadly spell, which reverberated off his brow and appeared to slay the Dark Lord. Harry was left with a lightning-bolt scar on his forehead, and he became well-known in the wizarding community.

Hagrid leads Harry to Diagon Alley, London's secret wizard shopping and trade district. Harry's parents have bequeathed him a large sum of money, which is kept at Gringotts Wizarding Bank. Ollivander sells Harry school supplies and a wand, claiming that the cores of Harry's and Lord Voldemort's wands contain feathers from the same phoenix bird, making them "brothers." Hagrid presents Harry with an owl named Hedwig. Harry boarded the Hogwarts Express at King's Cross railway station's hidden Platform 93/4 a month later. On the way to Hogwarts, Harry encounters Ronald Weasley, a fellow first-year student, and Hermione Granger, whom the two lads first hate. Draco Malfoy, a first-year student, gets in Harry's way.

A magical Sorting Hat at Hogwarts allocates first-year students to one of four school Houses — Gryffindor, Slytherin, Hufflepuff, and Ravenclaw – based on their personalities. Harry is adamant about not getting put into Slytherin, which is infamous for harboring dark wizards. Draco is sent to Slytherin, while Harry, Ron, and Hermione are assigned to Gryffindor.

Harry's skill for broomstick flying gets him a spot as the Seeker on the Gryffindor Quidditch team. Severus Snape, the Potions instructor who favors Slytherin while attempting to fail Harry, grows to loathe Harry. Malfoy dupes Harry and Ron into risking expulsion by staying out beyond curfew. Hermione, powerless to stop them, joins them. Recognizing Malfoy's trick, they seek refuge in a prohibited hallway, where they come with a massive three-headed dog guarding a trapdoor.

Later, at the school's Halloween party, Ron and Harry save Hermione from a troll, and the three become closest friends. With Snape's recent leg injury and odd behavior, Harry, Hermione, and Ron suspect he is attempting to enter the trapdoor.

Hermione urges the lads against further investigation and instead turns Harry's attention to his first Quidditch match. Snape's unusual behavior throughout the competition, as well as his broomstick's attempts to buck him off, convince Hermione that he jinxed Harry's broom. When Christmas approaches, Harry receives an unidentified present — his father's invisibility cloak. Using it to explore the school, he discovers the Mirror of Erised, which displays to the viewer what he or she most wishes.

The trio read a newspaper article on an attempted heist of the Gringotts vault Hagrid had visited while assisting Harry. They believe the thing hidden behind the trapdoor is the philosopher's stone, which provides its possessor immortality and the capacity to transform any metal into pure gold. Firenze, a woodland centaur, informs Harry that Voldemort is planning to take the stone to restore his body. When the school's headmaster, Albus Dumbledore, is enticed away from Hogwarts under false pretenses, Harry, Hermione, and Ron worry for their safety and fall via the trapdoor.

Due to a series of setbacks, Ron and Hermione are forced to stay behind while Harry continues. Professor Quirrell, Harry's Defense against the Dark Arts instructor, explains that he attempted to murder Harry by jinxing his broom and allowing the troll to enter the school; Snape was attempting to defend Harry. Quirrell is being used by Voldemort to get the philosopher's stone and his face is linked to the back of his skull. Harry is compelled to appear in front of the Erised Mirror. It sees Harry's lack of desire for the stone and places it in his pocket. Quirrell tries to take the stone and murder Harry, but his flesh burns. Harry's scar becomes inflamed, and he faints.

In the school's hospital, Harry awakens. Harry escaped Voldemort, according to Dumbledore, because his mother sacrificed her life for him and left a magical protecting spell. Quirrell's anger and avarice drove him to catch fire when he came into touch with Harry and Voldemort left him to die. Dumbledore explains that he gave Harry the invisibility cloak and that the philosopher's stone, which had kept Nicolas Flamel alive for so long, had been destroyed to prevent it from being seized. During the school's year-end feast, Gryffindor is presented with the House Cup. Harry moves back in with the Dursleys in Privet Drive.
