Summary

James Tock was born at Colorado's Snow County Hospital at the same time his grandpa, Josef Tock, a pastry chef, died of a stroke. 

Though incapacitated by a stroke earlier in the week, Josef unexpectedly recovers to give his son Rudy 10 cryptic prophecies, including that his grandchild would be named James—but that everyone will call him Jimmy. Josef also foresees five dreadful days in his grandson's future. Despite his coherent statement, Josef Tock does not recover from this catastrophe and dies immediately before the baby is delivered.

Earlier in the evening, Rudy Tock met a weird man named Konrad Beezo. Beezo is a clown for the same circus that Tock's pass is for, and he is a fitful, nasty, frightening, chain-smoking guy partially dressed as a clown. 

Natalie, a well-known trapeze performer from a decent family, is said to be in labor, and her relatives have nearly shunned her for marrying him. He speaks glowingly about his soon-to-be-born kid, who will be named "Punchinello" and will continue on the family clowning legacy. He uses several colorful epithets to describe his father-in-law.

Tock is overjoyed to be leaving Beezo. However, his mourning over his father's death was brief. Beezo goes wild after learning Natalie died during childbirth, shouting about her family sending assassins to assassinate her and opening fire, killing a doctor and a nurse. 

Tock, in arguably the only heroic moment in his modest baker's life, convinces the furious clown that his foes have fled, temporarily quelling his rage.

On the eve of his fifth and final awful day, Jimmy Tock creates the book, a vague autobiography of personal experience, reminisces, and second- or even third-hand recollections of events, transcribing it from a series of recordings. 

The story is told in a self-deprecating, humorously restrained tone. Certain experiences, however, stand out sharply, most notably blundering into a terrifying, yet almost strange, bank robbery by a trio of plastique-wielding crazed history buff clowns led by none other than Punchinello Beezo — during which Jimmy gradually realizes he's falling for a comely fellow hostage—and a huge gamble of chicken with a severely disturbed predator on an icy road the night his wife Lorrie (on the second predicted date). 

Konrad Beezo is the guy after the Tocks, seeking vengeance for his imprisoned and accidentally-gelded son. Beezo's insatiable yearning for a male Tock kid as his treasure, a new son to nurture in the good clown tradition, frames both this horrible day and the following prophesied day.

The maniac will go to any length to recover what he feels is owed to him, even many facial plastic procedures to assume new identities and evade the authorities. 

Jimmy believes that everyone and everything in the universe is tenuously yet inextricably linked to one another, just as his toes were at birth. This phenomenon is sometimes referred to as "six degrees of separation." 

Punchinello, who is presently incarcerated, is urged by Jimmy and Lorrie, who assisted in his conviction and punishment, to donate one of his kidneys to help save Annie Tock, Jimmy, and Lorrie's daughter. 

Punchinello only agrees to the gift in exchange for several favors that are little in contrast to the valuable kidney. 

As the arrangement nears completion, Punchinello requests that Jimmy assassinate Virgilio Vivacemente as a final favor. 

Jimmy learns a lot about himself as the prophecies come true one by one, as do Konrad, Natalie, Punchinello, and Konrad's father-in-law, Virgilio Vivacemente, the pompous, cruel patriarch of the world-famous acrobatic dynasty who throws a long shadow over both the Tocks and the Beezos' lives. 

Some of Jimmy's findings are lovely; others are terrifying; and still, others rattle his quiet, lumbering pastry chef's existence to its core, forcing him to consider the actual meaning of syndactyly—as both a disease and a life philosophy.

Summary

The main premise of the novel follows Ethan Truman, an ex-cop who now works as the head of security for Hollywood's most renowned actor, Channing Manheim, a.k.a. "The Face." 

Ethan is attempting to locate the sender of multiple horrible "messages" received in black boxes. 

Ethan now has six black boxes to decipher the contents of. Ethan ultimately uncovers the conspiracy and rushes to stop the kidnapping of Manheim's son, Aelfric, after hunting down leads and tracing the "ghost" of his dead buddy Duncan "Dunny" Whistler (technically, Dunny is not a ghost, as he came back to life in the morgue).

Summary

Frank Pollard awakens in the middle of the night in an alley, befuddled and terrified. He just knows his identity and that he must flee quickly or else he would be killed. Frank almost escapes with his life after being pursued by an unknown assailant.

Every time he goes to bed, he awakens to find proof of strange overnight adventures he cannot recall. 

Frank, fearful of his own conduct, enlists the assistance of Bobby and Julie Dakota, a husband-wife security team. 

At first, the case appears ludicrous, but as the Dakotas delve more into the mysterious Frank Pollard's life and background, they unearth an increasingly weird and perilous world threatened by a lunatic thirsting for blood. 

It is eventually revealed that Frank Pollard is the mystery madman's brother, as well as the twin sisters. They were the result of an incestuous connection between their mother and father. Her father was a drug addict who used psychedelic drugs, and her mother was his sister. She is a hermaphrodite who conceived with her own seed. 

Frank and his siblings gained remarkable psychic skills as a result of this exacerbated inbreeding. 

Frank, desiring a regular life, attempts to flee his family while being hunted by his brother, who is determined to either bring him back or murder him, and nothing will stand in his way. 

Bobby, Julie, Frank, and his family begin racing toward a final encounter after receiving a message from Julie's younger brother, who has Down's Syndrome and exhibits little psychic talent himself.

Summary

Janice Capshaw, a midnight runner, is followed and slain by a gang of enigmatic, horrific animals while running along the beach in her northern California hometown of Moonlight Cove. 

Sam Booker, an undercover FBI agent, arrives in Moonlight Cove to investigate a string of mysterious deaths, including Janice Capshaw's. 

Tessa Jane Lockland, Janice Capshaw's sister, also arrives at Moonlight Cove to investigate her sister's unsolved death.

Chrissie Foster, an eleven-year-old girl who lives on a farm north of town, finds her parents in a physically transformed state - half-human and part beast - and is compelled to leave for her survival. 

She makes her way to town in search of assistance. The unknown animals are hunting Sam, Tessa, and Chrissie separately. 

Sam and Tessa happen to meet at a Laundromat, where they had both sought refuge after being followed by the animals. They are first distrustful of one another, but they learn that in order to survive, they must work together.

Sam learns that Thomas Shaddack, a great computer scientist, is transforming the people of Moonlight Cove into something unknown. Sam also discovers that the local police are assisting Shaddack with the conversions and that their cutting-edge computer system, provided by Shaddack's business, is overly sophisticated for the demands of a small-town police department. 

Because of a letter written to the FBI by Moonlight Cove resident Harry Talbot providing information on recent distressing happenings, Sam and Tessa decide to visit Harry at his home. 

Harry is a Vietnam veteran who was severely injured during the conflict and now uses a wheelchair. He is not yet 'converted.' Harry has learned a lot about what is going on since he spends much of his time monitoring the residents of Moonlight Cove via his telescope, and he also discovers that the local police are participating. 

Chrissie also ends herself at Harry Talbot's when her effort to visit the local church results in her having to dodge the animals once more, and she makes the rational decision that Harry could be a safe person to approach.

Together, the four characters are able to put together a more complete picture of what is going on at Moonlight Cove. 

Thomas Shaddack has developed a method for transforming a person into a super-human who is immune to disease, injury, exhaustion, or emotion. However, the conversion has an unintended consequence. Life becomes intolerably pointless without the ability to experience human emotions, and the majority of newly converted villagers revert irreversibly into a beast condition, concerned solely with hunting, murdering, and digesting their victims. 

Shaddack's mental state worsens as events unfold. He refuses to admit that his ideas have failed miserably and that the conversions should be halted. 

When the Chief of Police, Loman Watkins, realizes that nothing can stop the town's spiral into mayhem, he pledges to murder Shaddack, which will instantaneously kill every converted person in the village. 

Shaddack has implanted a microchip in each individual as part of the 'conversions,' which will murder them along with Shaddack if his heart stops beating.

The climactic fight occurs in the local high school when Sam goes there to use a school computer terminal to send a warning to the outside world and solicit help. 

Shaddack is slain in the confrontation, which also kills the majority of the inhabitants. The FBI arrives to clean up the wreckage after Sam, Tessa, and Chrissie survive.

Summary

A mystery blond stranger (Stefan) prevents an inebriated Dr. Paul Markwell from attending to the difficult and delicate birth of Laura Shane in January 1955, amid a bizarre lightning storm. 

Laura's mother dies after childbirth, despite the fact that she is a perfectly healthy and wonderfully beautiful baby, and she is left to be raised by her father, Bob Shane. 

An addict tries to steal Laura's father's convenience store when she is eight years old; however, the blond stranger reappears, protecting them both and coaching them on what to tell the cops. 

Bob Shane dies after a heart attack in 1967. Laura sees the stranger looking over her again after her father's burial and comes to believe he is her guardian angel, along with an unidentified guy asking for her as she attempts to follow him.

Laura is placed in the McIlroy orphanage, where she meets Thelma and Ruth, twins who become her greatest friends. She also encounters Willy Sheener, a terrifying child molester who also works as the maintenance worker and custodian. 

Willy falls in love with Laura because of her unusually excellent looks and follows her throughout the orphanage. 

Following a series of strange episodes, her mystery angel pays a visit to Sheener and viciously beats him. This frightens him for a while until Laura is sent to live with the Dockwielers, with whom she soon bonds. 

Laura is able to fend off Sheener and finally murder him, but the stress of seeing the scene leads her new foster mother to have a fatal heart attack, sending Laura back to the orphanage. 

Soon later, Laura becomes 13 and is sent to another institution for older children, where she learns that Ruth was killed in a fire in McIlroy. 

Laura's creative writing at college catches the notice of Danny, a naïve man who has fallen in love with her from afar. Following a failed attempt to be her secret admirer, they agree to a date and eventually fall in love. 

Laura becomes a well-known author of numerous novels after their marriage and gives birth to a son, Christopher Robert. Because the birth was challenging, she will be unable to have children in the future.

Years later, the blond man's (eventually revealed to be named Stefan) intervention saves Danny, Laura, and Chris from a tragic disaster. 

A little time later, the unidentified man appears. Danny and the blond guy both attack, but Danny dies from multiple gunshot wounds before Stefan kills the man and tells Laura what to say, just like years before at the grocery store. 

He vows to return soon and tell more, but he doesn't return until a year later, injured, in a remote stretch of winter woods. Laura and Chris are able to heal him at a doctor they find in the phone book, but they soon face mysterious assassins.

The gang seeks refuge at a modest hotel. Stefan regains consciousness and eventually reveals his story. He was 35 years old when he was born in 1909. He is from Nazi Germany in 1944, and he is a member of a covert time travel program that sends spies to the future to discover methods to affect the result of World War II. 

Stefan had already arrived in an alternate version of 1984 and had met Laura, who was paralyzed as a result of Dr. Markwell's inebriated mistakes during her birth. Despite her infirmity, she created wonderful poetry volumes that encouraged Stefan to abandon his objective and travel to unpleasant portions of her life in order to alter them. His commander, however, became suspicious of him and pursued him, sending the assassins into the future to learn of their course.

They obtain numerous items they require with the assistance of Thelma, who has grown wealthy as a comedienne and actress after her sister's death. 

Fat Jack, an arms dealer, provides them with weapons as well as Vexxon nerve gas. Stefan is ready to travel back in time with the help of contemporary computing technology. He kills the five guys on duty at the moment with the nerve gas and disposes of their remains six billion years later. He jumps to visit Winston Churchill and tells him that the time machine institution must be attacked; Churchill agrees. 

Stefan also travels to Adolf Hitler to persuade the dictator of different issues that must be resolved, damaging the German war effort in the process.

While he is gone, Laura and Chris are ambushed by additional Nazis in an empty piece of the rain-washed desert after records of a police stop are uncovered. 

Stefan returns to discover Laura and Chris dead. He gets around the machine's time limit by sending Laura a message to save them. Despite this, Chris and Laura must face all four guys. The second cylinder of nerve gas becomes useful. Laura finally kills all four guys chasing them while protecting Chris to the best of her ability. 

Laura and Chris are questioned by the authorities over the course of many months. They quickly believe a narrative about 'drug traffickers' seeking vengeance. Laura backs up her claim by turning Fat Jack over, which she was about to do anyway (he does not blame her, due to his personal beliefs). 

Stefan, who had been hiding with Thelma, returns to live with them. Laura eventually falls in love with him after giving him more time.

Summary

Slim starts the novel by sneaking up on and murdering a "goblin or beast" on the fairgrounds of a local carnival. 

Goblins are genetically created super-predators that want murder and human agony and can shapeshift between human and bestial forms. They were created in an ancient, technologically advanced age of human civilization to torture and eventually slaughter humanity. 

Slim, Rya Raines (his wife), and Joel Tuck (Slim's friend and fellow carnie) are the only ones who can see them. These goblins are superhuman, exceedingly violent and genocidal, and can imitate human behavior. 

While they seem and act normally, they only experience unpleasant emotions such as dread and hatred. Their entire enjoyment comes from tormenting and murdering humanity.

Slim's claim to fame is his "Twilight Eyes," which allows him to get psychic, or prophetic, foretellings of the future. They also allow him to see past the goblins' human-like disguises. These eyes are so-called because they are purple, like the skyline at sunset.

Slim then goes on to join a circus (one of many he has strayed from) to sustain himself while killing goblins and escaping from his homicidal background (in which he killed an uncle by marriage that was a goblin responsible for the deaths of several family members). 

One of the "carnies'" important members is a young lady named Rya Raines, who swiftly becomes his girlfriend and confidante. As their relationship develops, Slim has numerous more run-ins with the goblins, revealing that his buddy Joel, and even Rya herself, can see the goblins and that each of them has suffered much as a result of the goblins' activities in the past. 

Rya had long established a deal with the goblins to report to them anytime she met someone who could see through their disguise in exchange for protection from their predations. He refuses to make the same agreement with them as she does.

This reality causes a schism between her and Slim, resulting in carnage. She subsequently comes to regret this, and after reconciling with Slim, she marries him. They decide to go on a quest to exterminate any and all species they may find.

They go on a personal mission to conduct a secret battle against the monsters in Yontsdown, Pennsylvania, the apparent hub of their harsh and violent form of society. They would learn and confront the final, terrible intentions the goblins had for the planet and all of humanity.

Summary

Odd Thomas returns to Pico Mundo only to be attacked by surviving members of the demonic organization he encountered in earlier books. 

He survives the first attempt on his life by escaping a huge SUV as he rides the rural roads on a hefty motorbike. Odd goes off-road and lures the SUV's driver into driving into a steep gully, killing everybody inside as the SUV explodes. 

Odd initially flies to the mall where Stormy and 18 others were murdered, just evading three cultists who, coincidentally or with Odd's psychic attraction, are visiting the mall where the cult's members nearly killed hundreds. 

After meeting Mrs. Fischer, Odd rides his bike to a safe home maintained by the same group he aided in the last novel. 

The safe house is operated by an older couple who tell him they've been married for years and have only had "5 terrible days in all those years," according to the husband. His wife disagrees, adding, "There were six, you need to figure out where we're disagreeing." 

Odd sleeps in the house's guest room and his dreams of Pico Mundo are filled with glimpses of people, both recognizable and unknown, floating by him with angry looks. 

He realizes that the cult has gathered enough C4 to destroy a neighboring dam after reconciling with Chief Porter and author Ozzy Boone. 

Destroying the dam would flood the town partially, but not enough to inflict the damage and death he envisioned. When he goes to the dam, he experiences an epiphany after sighting coyotes.

Odd returns to the safe home to discover it under siege by the cultists, all of whom are killed by the caretakers. 

Mrs. Fischer and a "Cleaning Crew" come and make the safe home look as if no one has ever lived there, while Odd and Mrs. Fischer meet in her limo. 

He is then forced to engage in a bloody cat-and-mouse game with the fanatics. A paramilitary attack squad pursues him through an almond orchard, and when they can't find him, they start blowing up the orchard's structures. 

Using the explosions to his advantage, Odd catches two cultists discussing the ritual rape and slaughter of a little family that owns a property nearby. 

Odd kills the cultists and rushes to the home in time to save the family in the barn. Odd hides in the landscape and then enters the home, following the cultists when they make their entrance. 

Odd eventually kills all of the cult members, including a girl he describes as having an "innocent child's face." 

Odd receives a terrible knife wound from the female cultist before she dies, and then sees her spirit waiting for him. Odd ignores her, causing her to go into a poltergeist rage while Odd flees the house. 

Odd observes that the demons ("Bodachs") who had previously collected in preparation of violent occurrences are no longer present. He eventually deduces that the cult intends to spread a lethal strain of the rabies virus via hoax air blasts emerging from a funhouse in a visiting carnival. The Bodachs have not appeared because they are solely concerned with immediate violence and not with sickness. 

He is able to foil the scheme, but only at the expense of a fatal gunshot wound. He is reunited with his girlfriend Stormy Llewellyn after death, who educates him on what he will confront in the hereafter. 

His literary friend then discovers the manuscript of this book printing inexplicably on his laser printer.

Summary

Odd Thomas meets a mad truck driver around a month after the events of Odd Apocalypse. 

Odd gets a vision of three children being burned alive by someone wearing a red suit, black shirt, and black mask during this meeting, as he touches the trucker. Odd realizes at that point that the trucker had the same vision and is the one torching the youngsters. The trucker immediately attempts but fails, to murder Odd. 

Odd pursues the trucker despite the fact that the man attempted to murder him because he knows he must assist the children. 

Odd, realizing he needs a car, grabs an SUV used as a getaway vehicle during a crime but smashes it. Then he notices a limousine approaching. The driver, who turns out to be an old feisty, fascinating, and occasionally enigmatic lady, pulls up to him and asks him a few questions before offering him a job as her chauffeur. 

He grudgingly accepts the task and tracks down the trucker to a remote estate guarded by fierce dogs. 

Devil worshippers make their sacrifices here, and they're planning a mass sacrifice of a large group of children. 

The ghost of Alfred Hitchcock, who has been coming to Odd on a regular basis, explains numerous of the cultists' beliefs. They are affluent, powerful, and nasty individuals who get away with whatever they want because the deity they worship protects them. 

Hitchcock's spirit communicates to Odd for the first time, which he has never experienced before; the living dead simply does not speak. 

Hitchcock emphasizes to Odd that at this moment in time, the only thing that counts is protecting the children. Odd is massively outmanned and will very definitely perish in the process.

Pretending to be a fellow cultist, Odd murders five cult members and manages to release the children, allowing him to flee the property and the demonic mayhem that is engulfing the remaining cult members. 

He finally arrives in the limousine, where his patron Mrs. Fischer and the rescued children await him. She drives them to a home that appears to be extremely comfortable, and a kind couple welcomes them inside. 

Once everyone is inside, five more adults and nine more youngsters join them. They all treat the rescued children with love, feeding them, talking with them, listening to them, and spending healing time with them. 

Later, while reclining on a sofa and focussing on a card in his hand, Odd notices that the five parents and nine children who had arrived earlier had vanished. 

Then he is told that the children he saved will be returned to their homes. They will have no recollection of the atrocities to which they were subjected.

The immediate challenges presented to Odd are overcome in this book, but there are clues of the endgame throughout. The author has declared that the seventh book in the Odd Thomas series will be the final one.

Summary

Odd got a place to stay at Magic Beach with a retired actor after leaving the monastery in the last book. One morning while out for a walk, he comes across a woman he has been seeing in his dreams: a young, pregnant woman named Annamaria. 

Odd gets separated from Annamaria after being assaulted and nearly killed by a huge guy with two henchmen in tow; however, he utilizes his psychic attraction to find her. 

When he finds her, they realize they must go quickly, but while they make their preparations, they hear a vehicle door bang. They locate a place to hide until the guys who have been hunting them depart. 

Odd and Annamaria went off walking now that the men had left. On their stroll, they come across a big group of coyotes, which Annamaria persuades to leave. 

Odd runs to a local church after leaving Annamaria with a trusted friend, where he is later given up to the sheriff of Magic Beach, but not before hiding his ID under a church bench. 

The sheriff, a man with several identities, believes Odd is a government agent sent to spy on his operation: the transportation and shipping of many nuclear weapons to terrorist organizations within the United States via the Magic Beach harbor. 

Odd persuades the Sheriff that he is a failed government experiment and that he is prepared to be bribed to look the other way. 

While the sheriff is arranging a deal to buy his allegiance, Odd manages to infuriate the ghost of Frank Sinatra, who began accompanying him when Elvis left. 

The fury created by his soul causes a tremendous whirlwind and Odd is able to flee the police headquarters in the turmoil.

He makes his way down to the harbor swiftly and is able to board the ship carrying the nuclear weapons. 

He is compelled to kill everyone on board, despite his objections, because there is no other way to protect the ship and its perilous cargo. 

Odd successfully runs the boat aground at a nearby cove, alerting the Coast Guard, DHS, and FBI to the contents of the vessel. 

Odd returns to the church to get his ID, but the sheriff greets him as he leaves. He runs into the priest and his wife while attempting to flee.

Odd discovers that the priest and his wife were both involved in the conspiracy to sell nuclear weapons via Magic Beach. 

The priest murders his wife before being assassinated by the sheriff, who is subsequently assassinated by one of his henchmen. 

The henchman, known as 'Meth Mouth,' converses with Odd, believing him to be a psychic government operative. Odd shoots Meth Mouth beneath the table with the wife's rifle while laughing at one of his jokes.

Odd and Annamaria exit Magic Beach at the end of the narrative. Odd is crying because he is responsible for the deaths of so many people, nearly all of them were killed by him. 

While he may have taken a few lives, Annamaria assures him that he has saved millions more. 

She then pulls over to the side of the road and requests that Odd show her Cassiopeia, the constellation. Odd and Stormy would frequently point out Cassiopeia together because it was Stormy's mother's name, thus Annamaria's request catches him off guard, but he obliges her by pointing out the constellation.

Summary

Seven months after Forever Odd, the story begins. Odd Thomas has been a visitor to St. Bartholomew's Abbey throughout this period, where he expects to find serenity and understanding. 

During his stay, he encounters a white-furred dog that helps him on his further travels.

Odd notices a shadow-like Bodach. This spells calamity for the abbey. One of the monks goes missing, and Odd is attacked by an unknown assailant. 

Odd hears an odd noise in a heavy snowfall while searching for the missing monk, and subsequently sees a complex, moving pattern of bones against a glass.

The abbey's other visitor, Rodion Romanovich, joins Odd in the garage to pick up the monks. 

Odd, skeptical of Romanovich, prepares to leave him at the abbey, but he escapes with one SUV full of monks before Odd can stop him. 

A bone creature flips Romanovich's SUV on the way there. Odd's confidant, Brother Knuckles, destroys the beast with the second plow, rescuing everyone. 

Back at the school, Odd and Romanovich discover that Jacob's father, The Neverwas, is John Heineman, a monk known as Brother John at the monastery and a former physicist who experimented with reality.

Later, Odd chooses to leave the monastery, but as he drives back to his hometown, psychic magnetism draws him out of the car, and the novel closes as he wanders down the highway toward the unknown. 

Elvis Presley, who occasionally aids Odd, ultimately crosses over after three escapades. Odd and the dog (who is now shown to be a spirit) go on together, only to be joined by the ghost of Frank Sinatra seconds later.

Odd Thomas is contacted silently by the spirit of a young girl brutally raped and murdered at the start of the novel, and is psychically led to her killer, a former schoolmate called Harlo Landerson, by his unusual capacity to interpret the dead. 

Koontz reveals how Odd was named and continues to reveal, layer by layer, how Odd's chaotic background has influenced his life, and as those circumstances are revealed, Odd's otherworldly powers begin to make more sense.

Odd encounters a suspicious-looking man at the restaurant while working as a short-order chef in a California desert town, followed by Bodachs, shadowy spirit creatures who manifest only during times of death and calamity. 

This man, whom Odd dubs "Fungus Man" (because of his waxy complexion and blond hair that resembles mold), is being pursued by an abnormally huge swarm of Bodachs, and Odd is certain that he is related to some awful disaster that is about to unfold. 

Odd utilizes his uncanny sense, which his soul mate Bronwen (a.k.a. Stormy) Llewellyn refers to as "psychic magnetism," to track him down in order to learn more about him.

Odd's sixth sense takes him to Fungus Guy's home, where he learns more about the man and a mystery other-worldly connection to the deadly forces about to be unleashed on Pico Mundo. 

Odd becomes fully involved in an attempt to avert the tragic slaughter he knows will occur the next day, accompanied at times by the ghost of Elvis Presley and encountering other remarkable spirits, including a slain prostitute.
